March 25, 2012

Our beautiful baby came to us on Sunday March 25, 2012 at 5:18 pm. She weighed 7lbs 15 oz and was 19 inches long. Welcome to our family Lucy Ann Jones.

I went into labor Saturday night and at 5am Sunday morning Bryan and I left for the hospital.  I was nervous about recognizing real labor pains, but once they start there's little to question. Bryan stayed by my side the entire time and I can't imagine how much harder it would have been without him there.  Even though her delivery was harder than I expected, (just as every mom says) it was more than worth it. Lucy is more beautiful than anything I could ever imagine. Heavenly Father blessed us with a very special spirit and we're grateful for this sweet girl that has made us so happy.

Food for Thought

My baby is shaping up to be a little chunky. According to the Doctor's measurements she's 7 lbs 14 oz already.  I hope she's not putting on weight just because I'm eating everything in sight.  Poor baby. She's already paying for the sins of the mother.  Who knows though...I've heard a lot of doctor's get it wrong.  There's probably a 2 pound margin of error. So in theory she could be almost 10 pounds. That's okay though.  I read that bigger babies have better brains.  It makes sense really.  I was 8.5 lbs.

2 Weeks Notice

The baby is due in two weeks.  I lied last week when I said it was just around the corner.  I've been pregnant forever.  Why do other people get their baby in the half the time it's taking me to get mine? I think we're about as ready for the baby as we can be.  We're a little inexperienced at bringing a baby home, so I think we're doing as well as can be expected.

Bryan is still working hard at school.  That's pretty much what I'll be saying about Bryan for the next 2 and 1/2 years. I don't know how he reads so much.  I can't get very far reading before I fall asleep.  I'm grateful he's going to graduate school to support our family and I get to be the mama.

Just Around the Corner

The baby is getting ready to make her debut sometime in the next 3-5 weeks. I'll be dissapointed if the baby comes late, but at the same time I get nervous thinking the baby could be here in just 3 weeks. I hope she likes me. I'm pretty sure she'll only want her Daddy. I can't blame her.

Work Work Work 'Till Broad Daylight

I'm trying to finish up my work assignments before the baby comes. It's getting increasingly difficult because they keep assigning me things. I'm pretty sure my boss just wants me to know how much I really want to a mama and not a career woman. It's working so far.

The baby seems to think that she's done cooking already and if she pushes hard enough she'll just be able to walk right out of my abdomen. I'm not letting my parenting record get off to the wrong start though. So whenever she pushes me, I push right back. So far it hasn't worked, (she still pushes all the time) but consistency is the key.

Happy Birthday to Me

The good news: time goes by fast and the baby is almost here. The bad news: time goes by fast and the baby is almost here. I don't know how much I really can prepare for a baby, but I feel like there's still a ton to do. At least we have a portable crib, so we can start decorating her room. Never mind that her room is the only available 5 square feet in the apartment off the kitchen (It'll be okay. I'm planning on her being pretty small).

The highlight of last month was without a doubt (for all involved) was my birthday. The festivities have stretched for a couple of weeks and I don't think we're even close to being done. Here's a list of a few of the celebrations: Treated by the Jones out to dinner at Vinny's, showered with cards/gifts, played Mexican train, had lemon bars and cake and ice cream, went out to eat at Michie's Tavern, had Chinese new year at the Hoemann's, and got a free meal from iHop. Next up: $50 dollars of eating at Applebee's. (Should I be embarrassed that most of these things were centered around food?)

Happy New Year

Bryan and I finished off 2011 (and our first year of marriage) in style. On our anniversary we spent the day at Mount Vernon where we enjoyed the company of some sheep, a pardoned turkey, and a camel. The camel was the highlight if I'm being honest. We were spared getting stuck in 4 hours of traffic on I95 South when DeAnn called us and told us that traffic was bad. So we ended up going to Grandma and Grandpa Horne's and had a nice evening with family. (You know there's a traffic problem when it's more time efficient to go 60 miles out of your way and delay getting on the road for a few hours than to just go home). In short, we had a nice anniversary. We've been very blessed this last year and have a lot to be grateful for.
